About Kynami

Who are we and why are we doing this?

We have had successful careers, and we want to give back.

In Silicon Valley parlance, we want our giving to “scale.” Our mission is to give back productively, produce long-term growth, and help people help themselves.

Our experiences and observations show that communities that thrive most and those whose members trust, love, and support one another. Our goal is to foster the growth of these communities.

Why join?

Kynami connects you with your family, friends, and those you trust to strengthen relationships and reinforce good behavior. Kynami is a unique social media platform which unifies local or world-wide communities of trust with common goals.

Whether next door or halfway around the world, Kynami connects people, encourages generosity, and facilitates healthy communities through public and private groups. Groups are dynamic and can serve individual goals, small groups, or organizations of any size. Participate in one or multiple groups to be encouraged and have the opportunity to motivate and encourage others. Our goal is to foster an inspirational environment as we grow in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Connect, love, and share with Kynami.

Is there a fee to join?

The core product is completely free. Our mission is to bring together, world-wide, communities of people who desire to improve and augment the world. Requiring money from you would only hinder this mission.

Kynami will add an option for you to donate money to the community of your choice. Kynami will also add a separate commerce space where you can engage your community on business transactions. You also will have the option to subscribe to the app to help support it if you choose to.

Kynami will support advertising only in the separate commerce space.

Community Membership and Registration

Why am I asked to select a community?

Selecting a community is optional. By selecting a community you will be able to join or request membership to groups associated with that community and you will automatically be a member of the community’s default group. You will also be able to find other users that are members of your community and form private groups with them.

Why do I not see my community?

We are working hard to build a comprehensive list of all trust-based communities. Bear with us until we complete this project.

How do I add my community to Kynami?

Adding your community to Kynami helps others in your circle join your groups. Please register your community by emailing us at register@kynami.life.

Can I communicate with people outside of my community?

You may communicate with anyone who can receive an email or an SMS message by inviting them to a group or sharing a recording directly with them. We have built the app to help you inspire others seeking to grow deeper in their relationships.

Can I create an account even If I am not part of a community?

Anyone is able to create an account without having to select any community to be affiliated with.

Who manages a community?

We view communities as a trust-based network and a place of open communications. Communities may be formal entities with a 501(c)(3) designation or informal fellowships that meet in a living room.

You may register your community with Kynami and invite others to it. By doing so, you become your community’s manager and agree to comply with Kynami’s community rules and terms of service. As such, you will become responsible for moderating content in your community (see Content Moderation and Bad Behavior in the FAQs below).

In the future, we will include functionality in the app to designate a community leader. We will also have functionality for the manager or other leaders to assign moderation responsibilities to others.

What is the benefit of registering a community with 501 (C)(3) status?

Soon, Kynami will enable a subscription model where it will become possible to give regular donations to the community through Kynami. This donation model is only possible with 501 (c)(3) organizations because of their tax-exempt status. Kynami will provide regular donation reports both to the 501 (c)(3) organization and the donor for tax purposes.

You do not need to make donations to use Kynami. Making donations is voluntary.

Donations are intended for community and their causes. Kynami does not take any portion of these donations.

Privacy and Security

Who can listen to my messages?

Public group communications are available to all. Private group communications are kept private to the group in which they are shared, so only members belonging to the group have access to them. Because your privacy is important, your private group communications can only be shared by you and cannot be re-shared by anyone else.

Can other people share my communications?

No. To keep your communications private, only the creator of the communication is able to share it. The members of the group where you shared your communication are only able to access it.

Do I have to share my messages?

No. When recording a message, you will be able to save it in your private group. The group named “Personal” contains just one member, you, and is a place to store messages you wish to keep to yourself. You may create different topics if you wish to further categorize your messages.Your private messages will remain private at all times, but you will be able to go back and access them.

Can I save messages and thoughts for myself or do I always have to send them?

You are always able to save messages and thoughts in your personal section, and they will continue to remain private. You can always access them and share them at a later time, if you choose to.

What is the difference between a public group and a private group?

A public group will be visible to all users that are associated with your community. It may be set up to allow users to join automatically upon request or to require that requests to join be approved by the creator(s) of the group.

Private groups are not visible to non-members and require an invitation from a group member to join. Users may choose to accept or decline invitations they receive.

Is my Private Group Dialog visible to other people?

Only members of the private group will be aware of it.

Can people search for me in the app?

No.

How do I know my user information is secure?

Public group communications are open for everyone to read. For private groups, Kynami uses two layers of encryption to protect user data. The first layer pertains to “data in flight,” meaning when any data is being transmitted from one place – like your smartphone – to another, like Kynami’s backend for distribution to others. The second layer pertains to “data at rest,” which is data that is stored on our backend servers to create the service that all collectively use.

Kynami uses TLS to encrypt all data in flight. TLS is the core encryption technology that protects all communications over the internet.

To protect data at rest, Kynami creates a separate encryption key pair for each group. Members of each group automatically receive the encryption keys for the groups to which they belong. These keys allow all data at rest to be encrypted – even from Kynami developers – while allowing members of each group to freely communicate with each other.

Content Moderation and Bad Behavior

Who is responsible for Content Moderation?

The group owner, or anyone who creates a group, is responsible for moderating the content within his or her group. We recommend that community leaders meet with group owners regularly to have a solid understanding of their needs, know where problems lay, and address those problems proactively before they become bigger issues.

What is the role of a Group owner?

The group owner is responsible for setting up the group, acting as a gatekeeper for groups whose membership is not open, and moderating the content within that group.

Every group owner should be familiar with Kynami’s community rules and terms of service ensure that the comportment within the group falls within acceptable guidelines.

What is inappropriate content?

Please review Kynami’s community rules and terms of service to get a clear understanding of what is deemed to be inappropriate content.

How do you report inappropriate content reflected in recordings or comments?

Email us at  feedback@kynami.life to report inappropriate content. You can also provide feedback within the app by going to settings/ About Kynami/ Report an issue.

How do you report member misconduct?

Email us at  feedback@kynami.life to report member misconduct. You can also provide feedback within the app by going to settings/ About Kynami/ Report an issue.

What happens to members who post inappropriate content or misbehave otherwise?

Local policing is the best policy. Group owners can remove content from any topics in their groups. Topic creators also can remove content from those topics.

It is the responsibility of group owners to have the offending member remove inappropriate postings or text. Group owners may also banish members who abuse Kynami’s community rules, terms of service, or violate the intended culture of the group.

Per Kynami’s terms of service, we also reserve the right to banish users from our platform for any reason. This banishment may come without warning. When a member is banished, his or her account may be suspended or deleted. If the member’s account is deleted, the content associated with that member will be deleted permanently.

Please adhere to the intent of Kynami. Our mission is to enable trust-based communities and reinforce good behavior.
